President:

Sukhmani
Kaur
Trust has a key role in leadership. Trusting my peers, my mentors, and even myself. Trusting others to fulfill their duties while staying confident that I can complete my role just as well. Gaining trust from the student body is just as important as they should be comfortable to come forward with any questions or concerns. As president of the National Honor Society (NHS), I look to gain the trust of my fellow officers, and members while also gaining the trust of C Milton Wright’s teacher advisors. I hope to foster a community of academic excellence, leadership, and service within this NHS chapter. I am dedicated to upholding the core values of the NHS by encouraging scholastic achievement, inspiring fellow students to take on leadership roles, and actively engaging in meaningful service projects. I have had the opportunity to be in a leadership position as Secretary/Treasurer of Students Taking a Responsible Stand/Students Against Destructive Decision (STARS/SADD) and as a Junior Varsity Field Hockey Captain. These roles have shown me the potential of future leadership roles while allowing me to understand the full responsibilities of important roles. I am also a part of many extracurricular activities within our school such as Junior Class Council and Spanish NHS while also being a part of activities outside of school: my local temple’s music group, and volunteering in the temple’s kitchen. These events and activities have taught me what the most promising qualities in a good leader are and I look forward to upholding those qualities as president. Through collaborative efforts, I aim to create an inclusive environment where every member feels supported in their pursuit of knowledge and personal growth. Together, we will strive to make a positive impact on our school and community, embodying the principles of scholarship, leadership, character, and service that define the NHS. Thank you for this incredible opportunity and I am grateful for the time you have given me.

When I think of leadership positions, I am always reminded of this one image. It compared two types of leaders: one was a leader on top of a cart labeled as 'business' demanding the employees that were pulling the cart to work faster, and the other was a leader who was at the front of the line helping and encouraging its employees to keep on going. While this idea isn't exactly mirrored in the context of officers for a school organization, it made me start reflecting on the leaders that I have had in the past. I concluded that they all shared these two characteristics: taking responsibility in their given role and having a genuine desire to help those around them. Therefore, by becoming National Honor Society President, I hope to possess those qualities and devote my strong work ethic to uphold the values of NHS.
I think that having responsibility means carrying out your designated role with tenacity and dedication. Through my previous leadership experiences in Best Buddies, Junior Class Council, and FCA, I have learned of the many responsibilities that leaders have and how important it is for organizations to have a strong foundation they can rely on. Finding communication as a key principle in managing any group, I will make sure to share upcoming plans and important information in a timely manner. Additionally, I hope to devote my creative and organized personality to planning new service events to create a rippling effect of empathy throughout our community where we can dedicate our time and efforts to helping those around us. My genuine aspiration to instill empathy within our society will assist me in working energetically to make sure that all members feel supported and appreciated for what they do. All in all, I aim to lead with purpose by being elected as your NHS President. That is, to foster a combined effort in which all of us can truly enjoy the gift of serving others in our community through our character, hard work, knowledge, and passions.

As president of National Honors Society, I will make a positive impact by leading and inspiring others in our school to create a better overall environment and culture at C Milton Wright High School. I have many of the key qualities that make a great leader from experience as the president of Students Taking A Responsible Stance (STARS/SADD), captain of the school field hockey team, and an officer in the ASL club. I also have gained valuable lessons from being enrolled in multiple AP and Honors courses in addition to 7 clubs within the school which appeals to my accountability, integrity, and work ethic. Over my High school career I have shown my dedication to hard work by being a 2 sport athlete, maintaining a job during the school year, and I have passion for service as I have 300+ hours of service within the community. Lastly I have shown empathy and leadership qualities during my multiple trips supporting the Harford Glen program supporting younger students in our community. I believe communication can be considered the most important skill for a leader to have as it serves as a way to connect the members to officers, officers to teachers, and all of us to the community and one team at C Milton Wright. Clear and consistent communication is something I can guarantee in National Honors Society with the help of my leadership. The members will have many opportunities to voice their opinions on relevant topics and share their ideas and concerns to make National Honors Society better for everyone. Every meeting will have an opportunity for students to speak up as well as within their committee. My organization skills and ability to collaborate will help me bring the members of National Honors Society together for meaningful projects that will benefit not only the school but our local community as well. I’ll be able to create a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages academic excellence and community involvement, with a focus on the pillars of National Honors Society. With my leadership, the National Honors Society will thrive and make a difference. Lastly I want to say I am committed to the National Honor Society and if by chance I am not selected as President I will stay committed to the group and continue to support in any way I can helping improve our great school and community.

When it comes to what someone should want in a leader, I say the most important aspect is plain honesty and being down to earth. Someone can be the most incompetent failure of a president, but if they tried their darnedest to make it count and was honest and chill the whole way, then they were an okay leader. I can promise that if get this position as president, I will try to the best of my ability not to run CMW NHS into the ground. This is an important leading job and I will treat it as such. I spent several weeks culminating this application and deciding to run, and this is not just a last minute submission on the due date. The responsibilities that come with this leadership role are immense, and someone needs to be prepared to carry them out to the best of their ability, no matter who much they really don't want to and would rather sleep. But I can confidently say that I will choose being a successful leader over sleeping, I can promise that. I would like to end this with a quote from someone who I look up to very much, and I hope the quote may influence you to vote for the best option according to your beliefs. "Nobody's perfect, you live and you learn it." Hannah Montana.

Vice President:

Devin
Sweeney

I would be an effective and productive vice president as I have experience public speaking and would uphold the leadership pillar greatly due to my experience not only as captain of the wrestling team but also as a coach for younger age groups locally. I can also bring productive assistance to any committees i’m overseeing as I have experience dealing with a lot of things at the same time due to my course load and extra curricular activities. I see myself as a great representation of all pillars of NHS as I enjoy doing community service, maintain a high gpa, have experience leading, and I’m able to be very punctual and arrive early to events as well as stay late when needed despite having a busy schedule. Overall, I should be elected as I have experience with a heavy workload inside and outside of the classroom as well as assisting with people via answering questions and leading them in a sports and academic setting, I also see myself as an understanding, respectful, but honest person who will be passionate about their work and would fit the vice president role perfectly.

I am running for NHS Vice President because of my motivation, organization, hard work, and respect for others. I believe that it is crucial for a good vice president to be respectful and motivating. I want everyone to feel that they have a voice that is heard, I also want people to feel a sense of accomplishment when they participate in National Honors Society.
The past year I have served as the vice president of Student Taking A responsible Stance, (STARS/SADD) this leadership opportunity has taught me how to communicate with teachers, peers, and fellow officers very well. Many of the vice president duties in National Honors Society are to communicate and work with fellow officers and members to ensure the club runs smoothly. STARS has taught me how to be a good leader that is respectful and how to keep myself and members of our club accountable with attendance and service. Attendance is a major part of being in a club and as vice president I want to promote the importance of coming to meetings to make sure you don’t miss any upcoming events in National Honors Society. I participate in 8 clubs within the school, some including FCA, Best Buddies, and JCC. Field hockey also plays a big role in my life where I was the captain of the JV team. This experience as captain has taught me valuable lessons on communication, and accountability. I have learned that respect and bonds make a successful leader. These clubs and sports have helped me grow as a person and as a classmate, I feel these experiences reflect how my leadership role in NHS will benefit the organization.
Attending National Honors Society events is something that is very important to me as I have attended all the events this year which have been wonderful. I want to increase the student engagement in the battle of the grades to get boys and girls to play and have fun. I also would like to have more people take part in the variety show, it is a fun and rewarding experience that is all about a good time. My top priority is a good environment and experience for both the National Honors Society members and our fellow mustangs and o promote what an outstanding opportunity National Honors Society. Thank you for your time and have a great day.

Service Coordinator:

Kendal
Faber
I am very excited at the prospect of a new position within NHS, and I, Kendal Faber, believe I possess a solid foundation of skills and other qualities perfect for the role of Service Coordinator for NHS! Although this role is new and may be unfamiliar, I am confident and fully prepared to embrace this unknown. Working with others has always been a natural thing for me. I am a well rounded individual, involved in numerous school-related groups (SGA, JCC, Envirothon, & others) and a 3-season athlete, so I am affiliated with a team-setting. I am able to balance those commitments with a part-time job, speaking to my strong work ethic and ability to handle multiple responsibilities effectively and efficiently. I am eager and able to coordinate and communicate with all my fellow officers, staff, and peers! Not only will I be working with them, but also other local organizations in need of student volunteers to make it fun to collect service hours in the upcoming school year! I thrive in organization, so helping you find service hours will be painless, and keeping records available and personal to you will be even easier. Again, while the position might be new, my readiness to embrace it, coupled with other mentioned qualifications, makes me confident in my ability to excel as your first NHS Service Coordinator for the '24-'25 school year

Hailey
Ghio
I believe I am a great candidate for the position of national honors society service coordinator for the 2025 school year because I am a responsible person who is active within the community.
Throughout my high school years I have had many different volunteering experiences. Over the summer I have volunteered to be a camp counselor at vacation bible camp and later in the year, through the same church, I helped in their soup kitchen. I also helped to run Aberdeen’s Earth Day event last year. Lastly, I volunteer twice a month to help teach dance to little kids through forest hill dance recreational program. All of these experiences have allowed me to make connections within the Harford County community, making me an excellent person to be able to share possible service opportunities to my fellow members.
I have taken and am currently enrolled in many higher leveled classes at CMW. Being exposed to these courses that require more time and attention have taught me many valuable skills. By taking an engineering course as well as AP biology, I have learned to use excel and make sure I have everything organized and presentable.
For these reasons I hope you consider me to be an NHS officer for 2025.

Committee Coordinator:

Axel
Lorentzen

I wholeheartedly believe that I would be the best candidate for the Committee Coordinator Position. This belief is placed on my confidence in my ability to communicate with anyone necessary. I have spent time in leadership positions in school, club, and sports, as a captain for multiple soccer teams, as well as a coach and mentor for local Churchville Rec. youth teams. In a group setting, I always make sure to work diligently to always be an active contributing groupmate, I can easily apply this skill to this position as an NHS officer. I vow to always give my best for the good of the NHS and its members where I will act as a strong pillar of support for incoming and current members in need. As an individual, my academics very strongly back my running for this position. It is by far my strongest attribute and is what will allow me to be a successful, useful, and helpful leader within the NHS. My communication, leadership skills, and dedication all qualify me to be a fantastic fit for this role.!
