Meet the Teachers


Melissa Berardelli

I attended Eastern Connecticut State University, where I received a B.S. in Mathematics with a minor in Psychology.  I also hold a MAT from Sacred Heart University. I earned my Administrator I, Organizational Change Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) from Towson University.  I have 16 years experience teaching 7th and 8th grade math in Connecticut prior to moving to Maryland. I began teaching at CMW in 2011. Here I have taught Intro to Algebra, Algebra 1, Honors Geometry, and Honors Algebra II. I currently teach Intro to Algebra/Algebra 1.

 

Wendy Butz, Department Chair

I attended West Virginia University, B.S. and University of Phoenix, M.A. National Board Certificated in 2013. I am certified Grades 1-6 & Middle School and 7-12 Mathematics. I have taught Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and AP Statistics. I currently coordinate the school website, and I teach Algebra 2 and AP Statistics.

 

Brian Gunter

I attended the University of Delaware and am certified to teach mathematics and social studies grades 7 – 12. I have been teaching for 24 years at CMW and the courses include: Intro to Algebra, Algebra 1, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and SAT Prep. I coach soccer, sponsor the chess club, sponsor the finance club, and work with the senior class council at CMW. I obtained my Masters in Administration from the University of Phoenix.

 

 Megan Lutz 

I attended Towson University where I earned a BS in Mathematics concentrated in Secondary Education. I am certified to teach mathematics for grades 7-12. This is my second year at CMW. I currently teach Algebra 2 and Geometry. 

 

Lisa Smith

I attended HCC and UMBC where I earned an AAT in secondary mathematics and a BS in mathematics. By the end of 2022, I will have my Masters in math education with a focus on secondary students from UMBC. I have taught for HCPS since 2015 and started teaching at C. Milton Wright in 2022. I currently teach Pre-Calculus and Geometry.

 

Becky Streett

I attended the University of Maryland, College Park, where I earned a BS in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a minor in Sustainability Studies. I also hold a MAT from Towson University and am certified to teach mathematics for grades 7-12. This is my first year at CMW where I am currently teaching Algebra I and Geometry.

Cynthia Thompson

I attended Penn State University, University of South Florida, and University of Maryland Global Campus. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Math Education and a Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology. I taught four years of 7th and 8th grade math in Florida before coming to CMW, where I have taught for 17 years. This year I am teaching Honors Trigonometry, Honors PreCalculus, and AP Computer Science A. I am also the JV girls' volleyball coach. 


James Tran

I attended Penn I attended HCC and Towson University where I earned a BS in Mathematics with a concentration in Secondary Education. I am certified to teach mathematics for grades 7-12. This is my first-year teaching at CMW. I currently teach Algebra II.

 

Kelly Younts

I attended Towson University where I earned a BS in Mathematics Secondary Education. I earned my Master's Degree from Goucher College in School Leadership and Improvement. I also have 60 credits beyond a master's degree. This is my 8th year at CMW, and I am currently teaching Honors Trigonometry, AP Calculus AB, and AP Calculus BC

 

Ellen Zaborowski

I attended the University of Pennsylvania, where I received a BS in Psychology with minors in Mathematics and Classical Studies. I also hold an MSEd from the University of Pennsylvania, plus 60 credits beyond a master's degree. I have taught every course from 7th grade math through AP Calculus. At CMW, I sponsor Math League and participate in Book Club. This year, I teach Statistics and Honors Trigonometry.
