CMW Science Teachers

Ashley Alexander (IPC, Chemistry):

Ashley Alexander has been teaching Earth Science, Chemistry, and Integrated Physics and Chemistry at C. Milton Wright for 15 years.  She has her undergraduate degree from Towson University and her master’s degree from Mississippi State, both in geosciences. At CMW, Mrs. Alexander is the contact person for high school students applying to be counselors at Harford Glen. In her spare time, she likes to collect rocks and fossils while hiking and camping with her husband and 5 kids. 

Kim Ashman (Special Educator in Science):

Kim Ashman is in her first year at C. Milton Wright. She was a teacher and assistant principal in New Jersey for 10 years before moving to Maryland and worked at Harford Community College for the last 12 years. Mrs. Ashman has a bachelor’s degree in Special Education/Elementary Education and a master’s degree in Educational Administration. In 2019, she received the Harford County Champions for Children and Youth Award. Mrs. Ashman is married to her high school sweetheart, Larry Ashman, who also teaches at C. Milton Wright. They have 3 children, Kelsey, Brady and Kyle.

Joann Chartrand (Biology, AP Biology, Botany/Zoology):

Ms. Chartrand has spent her entire 24 years teaching at C. Milton Wright High School. During this tenure, she has taught all levels of Biology including AP Biology, Botany, and Zoology. She is excited to teach Biology during a time of new advancements in this field and bring these new ideas to my instruction. Ms. Chartrand hopes that her students walk away from Biology with an understanding of how Biology affects their life. Ms. Chartrand co-sponsors the Science National Honor Society and is a member of the school improvement team. In addition to teaching at C. Milton Wright, Ms. Chartrand is also an adjunct Biology professor at Harford Community College. Ms. Chartrand holds a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture (Plant Science and Biotechnology) from Delaware Valley University and a Master of Science in Biology from Towson University. In 2022, Ms. Chartrand completed her master’s plus 60 credit program. 

Anne Cox (IPC, Chemistry, AP Chemistry):

Anne Cox earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland in Biochemistry and a Master of Science from Johns Hopkins in education. She has been teaching courses including Chemistry, AP Chemistry, and IPC at C. Milton Wright for 21 years.  She especially enjoys teaching chemistry not only because it is an amazing field of science but also because it is difficult.  She believes it is important for students to learn to work hard and persevere, not only in chemistry but also in life. 

Andrew Gerard (IPC, Physics):

Mr. Andrew Gerard is a native of Harford County, having grown up for most of his life right here in this community.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Gordon College in Physics and Mathematics, with a minor is secondary Education.  He also has a master’s degree from Loyola College in Administration and Supervision.  He has been at C. Milton Wright for 25 years, teaching math, technology, general science, aerospace engineering, but predominately Physics – Honors and AP.   When not busy with school responsibilities, he enjoys being a backyard mechanic, all-round handy man, participating in a variety of sports, and being outdoors.  He and his wife live in Bel Air and have 2 adult children.

Linn Griffiths - Science Department Chair (Biology, Chesapeake Bay Watershed Science, AP Environmental Science):

Mrs. Griffiths teaches Biology, AP Environmental Science, & Chesapeake Bay Watershed Science and is the Science Department Chair. She has been teaching 33 years in HCPS – 20 of those at CMW. She has a bachelor’s degree from York College of PA in Secondary Education - Biology and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Loyola University in Maryland. Mrs. Griffiths was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching for Maryland in 2007. In addition to teaching and department chair duties, she is the Science National Honor Society Co-Sponsor, the Envirothon Co-coach, the Recycling Coordinator, and Green School Coordinator for CMW. She and her husband, who also teaches at CMW, enjoy traveling to and hiking in our nation's National Parks.

Shannon Martin (Biology, Chemistry, Marine Science/Astronomy, Geohazards Engineering): 

Mrs. Martin is in her 17th year teaching science at C Milton Wright High School. She first obtained her bachelors of Science at Towson University majoring in special education with a minor in secondary science. She then obtained her master’s in education from Grand Canyon University and an additional 60+ credits from various institutions furthering her knowledge in both science and educational best practices. Mrs. Martin's love for science is rooted in Earth Science studies as evidenced by her passion for teaching the Marine Science and Astronomy electives for the past 15 years. She utilizes a hands-on based method emphasizing observation of phenomena in all her courses which also include Biology, Chemistry and Geohazards Engineering. 

Rebecca Martinek (Biology, Anatomy & Physiology):

Rebecca Martinek is an enthusiastic Biology teacher bringing nineteen years' experience teaching Life Science. Rebecca has a bachelor’s degree in Developmental Biology and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Notre Dame of Maryland University. Rebecca is a mom of four and enjoys spending time in nature! She is passionate about generating engaging and meaningful classroom discussions and experiences for all her students. As a former scientist in a Neurology Lab, Rebecca brings real life experiences into the classroom to share with her students.

Michael Rex (IPC, Physics, AP Physics C: Mechanics):

Michael Rex has been teaching at C. Milton Wright for 8 years. During that time, he taught Geometry, Algebra, Physics, and Integrated Physics Chemistry classes. He graduated from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education: Physics and Mathematics and received a master’s degree in School Improvement and Leadership at Goucher College. Mr. Rex is also a co-adviser to the Junior Class Council at CMW.   

Jennifer Ryan (Forensic Science, Earth and Environmental Systems):

Jennifer Ryan teaches Earth and Environmental Science and Forensic Science at C. Milton Wright. She attended Towson University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Earth and Space Science with a Secondary Education Certificate. She has also obtained a master’s degree in Educational Leadership with a Human Resources Track. She has been teaching in Harford County for 12 years. She is enthusiastic about Earth Science and Forensics Science topics and sharing them with students.

Chuck Woomer (Earth and Environmental Systems, Biology):

Chuck Woomer has been teaching at C. Milton Wright since 2004 and currently teaches Biology and Earth and Environmental Science.  He attended Kutztown University for his undergraduate in Applied Geography and McDaniel College for his Masters in Curriculum and Instruction.  Every day is a new and exciting day at CMW and he looks forward to always teaching different courses and tries to get all of his students excited to learn about the Earth.
